With the Sonos Sub Mini, the manufacturer has introduced a new, compact subwoofer today. Despite its small dimensions, the device is supposed to present deep and rich bass up to a frequency of 25 Hz and can be fully integrated into the Sonos system.

The new Sonos Sub Mini picks up the cylinder design of the Sub, but comes along much more compact. Only 305 mm high is the WLAN subwoofer, which comes to a diameter of 230 mm and weighs 6.35 kg. It is available in black and white.

Despite the compact dimensions, the Sub Mini also wants to convince in terms of sound. Class D digital amplifiers are used, along with two inward-firing 6-inch force-cancelling woofers that reach down deep into the bass frequencies to 25 Hz.

The sealed case prevents distortion for even better bass response, while Trueplay (exclusive in combination with an iOS device) uses software to measure the acoustics of the room to tune the sound of the Sonos system.

“The Sub Mini is the newest member of the Sonos family and a perfect addition to our home theater portfolio. Users:inside can look forward to high-quality sound that will make them feel right in the middle of the action with all their favorite content,” promises Maxime Bouvat-Merlin, senior vice president, hardware & operations at Sonos.

The Sonos Sub Mini naturally integrates conveniently and wirelessly into the manufacturer’s ecosystem, making it an ideal complement to the Sonos Ray soundbar launched in June or the superior Sonos Arc (our review).

When paired with other speakers like Beam (Gen. 2), Ray, One, or One SL, the Sub Mini takes over the low frequencies, adding more detail to the mids and highs as well and making the overall sound fuller and more powerful.

The Sub Mini integrates into the existing Sonos system with just a few clicks via the app and is easily combined with additional Sonos speakers. The connection is made with the help of the Sonos app, through which a control of the volume and equalizer settings are also possible.

The subwoofer connects to any 802.11a/b/g/n router in the 2.4- or 5-GHz range via WLAN and has a 10/100 Ethernet port for wired use. Inside, two CPUs are at work, made up of an ARM Cortex-A9 processor and ARM Cortex-M4 processor.

The Sonos Sub Mini will be offered in black and white and will be available worldwide from 06 October 2022 at a recommended retail price of 499.00 euros. Pre-ordering is now possible via the manufacturer’s homepage.
