Gunpowder used in manufacturing toy guns could be the reason behind the blast at a chemical factory in UP's Hapur, in which twelve people were killed and 20 injured after a boiler exploded on Saturday, June 4, said sources. The explosion was so strong that its sound was heard 10 km away.

The blast took place at a factory named Ruhi Industry in Hapur. IG Parveen Kumar said according to the preliminary probe, the owner of the factory has been identified as Dilshad.

Police officials have said that some long plastic cartridges have been recovered from the premises of the factory. Preliminary probes suggest that some cartridges that are used in toy guns were also manufactured in the factory. Sources have said that gunpowder being used in the manufacturing process could be the cause of such a big explosion.

The UP Police has now registered an FIR under Section 304 (culpable homicide).

- A blast took place at a chemical factory when its boiler exploded on Saturday around 3 pm in UP’s Hapur. Twelve people were killed and 20 injured in the incident.

- The impact of the explosion was so intense that the roofs of some of the factories located in the vicinity were damaged.

- The incident took place at the factory named Ruhi Industry located in the Uttar Pradesh State Industrial Authority (UPSIDC) area in Dholana.

- The factory manufactured electronic equipment and got its licence in 2021.

- The IG said that the owner of this factory has been identified as Dilshad, a resident of Meerut. He had recently rented out the factory to a person named Wasim, a resident of Hapur.

- UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath condoled the deaths and asked officials to extend all help to the families of the deceased.

- The chief minister has also asked officials to get the accident investigated by experts.

- Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the fire at Hapur chemical factory.

- Hapur DM Medha Roopam said that a committee will be formed to probe the incident. Police have accessed the footage of the entire factory to know the exact cause.

- The DM also said that other factories in the area are being inspected and action would also be taken against officials concerned if it was found in the probe that the incident took place due to their laxity.

A team of officers has reached the industrial area to hold a survey at nearby factories to make sure that they are doing the same work as mentioned in their licence. "We are currently waiting for the forensic report to proceed further in the blast case," the DM said.

Meanwhile, fire broke out at a textile mill in the Pandesara area of Surat in Gujarat on Saturday night.

News agency ANI quoted fire officer Falgun Kumar as saying, "Around 15-20 firefighters reached the spot. No casualties have been reported yet."
