A fire at Bridgewood Cabinetry in the Chanute Industrial Park sent up a column of black smoke. The Chanute Fire Department responded at 3 pm Friday to a fire in the dust collector. Plant Manager Bryan Thummel, director of wood products, did not know how many employees were in the plant at the time, but said it was evacuated within minutes with no initial reports of injuries. “We practice this routinely,” he said.
